Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how CFO School ("CFO School", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data when you use our website at learn-finance.com and related services (the "Service"). CFO School is an online corporate-finance education product operated by Ashwin Chandrasekar, an individual (sole proprietor) based in India. We've tried to write this in plain language. In short: we collect only what we need to run a learning service, we don't sell your data, and you stay in control — including the ability to opt out of marketing at any time.

1. What We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

• Account information. If you create an account or sign in (via email/password or Google sign-in), we collect your email address and name. Sign-in is optional — the CFO Simulator is fully playable without an account — but signing in is required to access paid lessons and to save and sync your progress across devices.
• Learning data. Your course progress, quiz/exam results, flashcard activity, personal notes, certificate status and similar learning records.
• Payment information. Paid subscriptions are processed by our payment provider, Razorpay (including international cards and UPI). Razorpay handles your card and payment details directly — we do not collect or store your full card numbers or other sensitive payment credentials. We receive limited confirmation data such as transaction status, a payment/order reference and subscription dates.
• Usage and analytics data. Via Google Analytics 4, we collect information about how you use the Service, such as pages visited, features used, device/browser type and similar technical information.
• Approximate location. We use a third-party IP-geolocation service to estimate your country/region from your IP address. This is used only to choose the right display currency for pricing — not to track you.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To run the Service — create and secure your account, deliver course content and the CFO Simulator, generate certificates, and provide the AI tutor.
• To save and sync your progress across your devices.
• To process payments and subscriptions and honour our 14-day money-back guarantee.
• To improve the Service — understand how features are used, fix problems and develop new content.
• To set your display currency using approximate location.
• To communicate with you about your account, purchases, support requests and important service notices.
• To send marketing email — finance tips, product updates and offers — only if you have consented. You can withdraw consent and unsubscribe at any time (see Section 6).

3. Legal Bases and Consent

Where India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and, for users in the EU/EEA and UK, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) apply, we rely on the following legal bases:

• Performance of a contract — to provide the Service you sign up for, including account, lessons, syncing and payments.
• Consent — for marketing email, non-essential cookies/analytics, and any processing that requires consent under applicable law. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
• Legitimate interests — to secure, maintain and improve the Service and prevent fraud, where these interests are not overridden by your rights (where GDPR applies).
• Legal obligation — to comply with tax, accounting and other legal requirements.

4. Third Parties and Processors

We share personal data with trusted service providers who process it on our behalf, only as needed to run the Service:

• Google Firebase / Firestore — authentication and storage of account and learning data.
• Google Analytics 4 — usage analytics.
• Razorpay — payment processing (including international cards and UPI).
• IP-geolocation provider — to estimate approximate location for currency selection.
• Our email service provider — to send account/transactional emails and, with consent, marketing email.

These providers are bound to handle your data securely and use it only for the purposes we specify. We do not sell your personal data. We may also disclose data where required by law or to protect our legal rights.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies and similar technologies (including browser local storage) to keep you signed in, remember your preferences (such as your chosen currency), and — with your consent where required — to run analytics. The CFO Simulator, flashcards and notes may store data locally in your browser so they work smoothly. You can control or delete cookies and local storage through your browser settings; disabling some of them may affect how the Service works.

6. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data (you can update much of your account information directly in-app).
• Delete your data and close your account ("right to erasure").
• Withdraw consent at any time, including for analytics and marketing.
• Opt out of marketing email at any time — every marketing email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can manage your email preferences in-app at any time. Opting out of marketing does not stop essential service and transactional emails.
• Where GDPR applies, additionally request data portability, restriction of processing, and object to certain processing, and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app settings or email us at support@learn-finance.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity first.

7. Data Retention

We keep your personal data only for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate business and legal purposes. Account and learning data are retained while your account is active; if you delete your account, we delete or anonymise this data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records (for example, payment and tax records) to comply with legal obligations. Analytics data is retained according to our configured retention settings.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and trusted infrastructure providers (such as Google Firebase and Razorpay). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to address any incidents promptly.

9. International Data Transfers

CFO School is operated from India and serves users internationally. Our processors (including Google and Razorpay) may store or process data on servers located in other countries. Where personal data is transferred across borders — including out of the EU/EEA or India — we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the providers' contractual protections (for example, Standard Contractual Clauses) and applicable legal mechanisms, to keep your data protected.

10. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, please contact us at support@learn-finance.com and we will take steps to delete it. Where required, children's data is processed only with verifiable parental consent.
